Cherryville Historical Museum

Located in the historic City Hall Building it tells the history Cherryville

The Cherryville Historical Museum is housed in the old City Hall Building on Main Street. It was built in 1911 and was used as the city hall, fire department, police department, courtroom and jail. When the city built new buildings to replace the old city hall, they decided to sell it. It was sold by auction and purchased by Claude and Mable Beam. The building was eventually donated back to the city by the Beam estate to be used as a museum.

The museum has three floors of exhibits. It started with the old 1922 Lafrance Fire Truck that was used by Cherryville. Many exhibits have been added including a miniature walk in exhibit of the first public school, Church Exhibit, Mills, Barber/Beauty Shop, Art, Banking, New Year Shooters, Sports Hall of Fame, Music, the old jail, puppet theatre, civil war history, military history and much more.

The Cherryville Historical Museum was established to collect, classify, preserve and make available to the public the artifacts, archaeological and ethnographical materials of the greater area of Cherryville, Gaston County, North Carolina. It's purpose is also to recognize the totality of history as it affects the people of the greater Cherryville, North Carolina area and to anticipate the making and recording of its history for future generations. In addition, the overall intent is to establish and operate a museum of history to intermesh local history with the life of the Cherryville Community.
