About the Event

Have you ever drove past a barn with a quilt block pattern and wondered about the meaning behind it? Barn quilts began as a way to honor a loved one with a gorgeous piece of folk art. The concept of barn quilts began with Donna Sue Groves and her wish to honor her mother, Maxine, and her Appalachian heritage by having a painted quilt hung on her barn in Adams County, Ohio.

In this workshop you will be guided through the whole process, from selecting a pattern, preparing the surface, layout, painting and installation. For this class, you will be able to choose one of three different star patterns in a 24"x 24" size.

Please bring: handheld hairdryer, snacks, and lunch if desired. Wear old clothes you can paint in. All other supplies will be provided by the instructor!

Instructor: Cathy Taylor - After working 50 years, the last 24 being the executive director of a large non-profit, Cathy retired with the goal of learning to play and have fun. After being encouraged by a friend to paint a barn quilt, Cathy was excited about the result and has now painted many barn quilts for her friends and family.

Cost: $50
