Boots, high heels, sandals, platforms, and sneakers are all types of shoes. From daily wear to statement pieces, shoes are an important part of modern fashion and comfort. Visit the Gaston County Museum of Art & History beginning August 15th to experience a variety of shoes from the permanent collection.

“This exhibit was inspired by our upcoming second floor exhibit, Niche Knits, which looks at stockings and hosiery mills,” Gaston County Museum’s Curator, Alicyn Wiedrich, said. “But this really can stand on its own two feet—forgive the pun!” She went on to entice visitors to come to learn fun facts about shoes. “For example,” Wiedrich went on, “did you know that the first pair of shoes with a distinct left and right shoe were created in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1818?”

“Fancy Footwear” will be open from August 15th through September 30, 2023. The Gaston County Museum is free to experience.
