Into the Darkroom
Into the Darkroom: Photography as History and Artform is a complete exploration into the technological and creative medium of photography. In addition to uncovering its origins and evolution, visitors will also learn about photographers in Gaston County, from traveling photographers before the turn of the 20th century through the digital age of photography. As photography developed, so did the artistry, creativity, and tricks of the eye. Four modern photographers (Rick Haithcox, Bae Hart, Grant Baldwin, and Emily Núñez) will display their artform to reveal the technical skill, attention to light and texture, and perspective required to take a truly stunning photograph.
Across the hall, visitors of all ages can step inside a darkroom to experience photography development, learn about trick photography, and even take a selfie with a polaroid camera.
This exhibit will be on display at the Gaston County Museum of Art & History from May 31, 2022 through July 29, 2023.
