LitFlix is a bi-monthly book club that discusses book to film adaptations. Purchase a ticket for the featured book and pick it up anytime before the meeting. While it's not mandatory, we highly recommend that you read the book prior to the meeting. At each meeting, we'll dive into the original book text and compare it to key scenes from the film adaptation. Expect a lot of fun, plenty of laughs, and interesting conversations about how the book was likely better as we explore the differences, similarities, and decision making that went into the film adaptation. Oh, did we mention free popcorn!? July's Adaptation:The Beach by Alex GarlandThe Khao San Road, Bangkok—first stop for the hordes of rootless young Westerners traveling in Southeast Asia. On Richard's first night there, in a low-budget guest house, a fellow traveler slashes his wrists, bequeathing to Richard a meticulously drawn map to "the Beach. " The Beach, as Richard has come to learn, is the subject of a legend among young travelers in Asia: a lagoon hidden from the sea, with white sand and coral gardens, freshwater falls surrounded by jungle, plants untouched for a thousand years. There, it is rumored, a carefully selected international few have settled in a communal Eden.
