Bessemer City

Bessemer City has a story that reaches back to the Revolutionary era and continues through Gaston County’s textile heritage. Explore the remains of Ormand Furnace, one of the oldest iron furnaces in the region, visit Long Creek Presbyterian Church and Cemetery, or learn about local labor history through the story of Ella May Wiggins, a union organizer involved in the 1929 Loray Mill Strike. The Historic Osage Mill, built in 1896, is another reminder of the textile industry that helped shape the community.

Outdoors & Relaxation

Outdoor adventure is just minutes away. Crowders Mountain State Park offers hiking, fishing, paddling and rock climbing against the backdrop of Crowders Mountain and Kings Pinnacle. In town, Bessemer City’s parks provide opportunities for walking, recreation, picnicking and simply enjoying time outdoors.

Downtown & Art

Downtown Bessemer City blends historic character with community gathering spaces, local art and a growing sense of energy. Centennial Park features seasonal artwork from area artists, while murals throughout downtown add color and tell stories from the community’s past—including a new mural honoring textile worker and labor organizer Ella May Wiggins and the workers who helped shape Gaston County’s textile history.
