Gaston County sees several business openings this year


Since the beginning of the year, 2022, Gaston County has welcomed a few new restaurants to the area.


Drift on Lake Wylie

315-M Lanyard Lane, Belmont

Designated as a chophouse, Drift on Lake Wylie offers gorgeous lakefront views from both the upstairs and downstairs patios and is accessible by boat. This restaurant is new construction with a contemporary style, located in Belmont at Morningstar Marina in the McLean development. Their menu features fresh fish, seafood, steaks and pasta as well as delicious cocktails and wine.


Drift is the brainchild of Elliott Close, Colby Mosier and George Henry the ownership group also know for Pump House in Rock Hill and Napa at Kingsley in Fort Mill. This 15,000 sq. ft. restaurant reflects grassroots farming heritage and the leisure of modern lake living.

Mangiamo Italian Pizzeria

101 West Main Avenue, Gastonia

Located just a few blocks from their Italian eatery on Main in Gastonia, Mangiamo Pizzeria serves New York-style 'one-slice' pizzas, in addition to lunch specials, sandwiches and calzones. The dough and cheese are made fresh in-house, making their pies a truly unique treat.


Not a stranger to the area, this is one of several Italian restaurants for Tony Coppola originally from Trenton, New Jersey, including Terra Mia in McAdenville and the Reginella Italian Pizzeria in Gastonia.

Honeycomb Cafe

31 North Main Street, Belmont

Providing fresh breakfast, brunch and lunch in downtown Belmont. At Honeycomb Cafe, you'll find carefully crafted touches from handmade coffee cups, to scratch made gravy and farm raised bacon. They pay attention to the smallest details down to every garnish, so you can relax knowing they have your back.


NJ born, Johnson & Wales University trained, Chef Patrick, is the owner. He is excited about this opportunity to build on the mission from their sister restaurant Heirloom, also located in downtown Belmont, to "build something to support generations."

190 West Main Avenue, Gastonia

Right in the heart of historical Gastonia you will find this relaxing lounge ready to cater to you. WhiskGars is a private membership only lounge with top shelf liquor, premium hand rolled cigars and comfy seating, waiting to serve you. Next time you visit downtown, you will be glad you topped off your visit with a relaxing moment, right here.


Owner, Jacob Hibberts of Gastonia drew inspiration for what WhiskGars, by visiting cigar lounges across the U.S. Today, visitors will find find a laid-back, ritzy atmosphere featuring live jazz music on the weekends and special events throughout the year. This is a place where you can not only relax with friends and family but host business meetings as well.

One Fifteen Craft

115 Main Street, McAdenville

Experienced owners Dewayne and Brittany share a love of beer and wine, traveling the world to experience other producers and taprooms. They make their way here from Oak Island, NC where they ran Southport Tap & Cellar, bottleshop/taproomon.


Located in downtown McAdenville, One Fifteen Craft will officially open Jun 10th, 2022 as a bottleshop and taproom featuring 18 taps, bottled and canned beer, wine, mead, cider, hard seltzer, hard kombucha, sake and slushies. Best of all, their tasty beverages can be enjoyed on-site or as a to-go order.

Goat Island Getaway

237 8th Avenue, Cramerton

Luxury modern living with a small town feel is waiting for you at Goat Island Getaway in Cramerton. This Air B&B offers 2 nearly identical suites, each with 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, and share a large communal deck. Complimentary kayaks and bikes are also available to make the most of your experience.

As soon as you check yourself into either the Nanny Suite or the Billy Suite, you’re greeted with a Matisse inspired wall mural on a high-pitched ceiling. Both are well appointed with and high-end finishes and amenities to create a luxurious experience.


Your hosts, Tammy and Jim Lawrence moved to Cramerton in 1997 after they fell in love with it. Tammy was a commissioner for Cramerton for 8 years and played an integral part in developing Goat Island, hence the name.

Sims Legion Park

1001 North Marietta Street, Gastonia

This spring we saw the reopening of Sims Legion Park. Formerly home to the Gastonia Grizzlies, this baseball park received some amazing renovations including a transition from a grass field to synthetic turf, as well as improvements to the locker room and concessions area.


Baseball returned to Sims Legion Park this spring for Gaston College Rhinos Athletics who used it for baseball and softball this season. The future will bring more sports to the field such as women’s beach volleyball and soccer, as well as regional and national sports tournaments. Keep an eye on our sports schedule for upcoming games.
