Ice Sculptures at Stowe

Winter in Gaston County brings unexpected magic, and this January, Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden becomes the centerpiece of a truly unforgettable seasonal experience. Ice Sculptures at Stowe transforms the Garden into a glowing winter wonderland, giving visitors the perfect reason to plan a day trip—or turn it into a cozy weekend getaway.

Created in partnership with Ice Trade and Ice Mill, the immersive installation features 80,000 pounds of ice carved into 20 towering, nature-inspired sculptures, each standing between four and ten feet tall. Spread throughout the Garden, the sculptures invite guests to wander at their own pace, discovering whimsical designs and dramatic forms tucked among the winter landscape.

As evening sets in, the experience becomes even more enchanting. The sculptures shimmer and glow under the lights, creating stunning photo opportunities and a magical atmosphere that feels straight out of a storybook. Guests can also enjoy live ice carving demonstrations, offering a rare look at the skill and artistry behind these frozen masterpieces.

The winter magic doesn’t stop there. During Ice Sculptures at Stowe, guests can also enjoy the glowing displays from Holidays at the Garden, illuminating the Garden’s 90 acres with festive cheer. Families will appreciate that the Prairie Castle Playground will be lit and open, giving kids a chance to play while parents soak in the scenery.

Ice Sculptures at Stowe Make a Perfect Winter Getaway

Ice Sculptures at Stowe also makes a perfect starting point for exploring everything Gaston County has to offer in winter. Earlier in the day, adventure seekers can enjoy winter activities where cooler temperatures make trail walks, biking, and riverside views especially enjoyable. Prefer something slower-paced? Winter is an ideal time for hiking Gaston County’s scenic trails, with crisp air and unobstructed views through the trees.

Looking for family fun without snow? Snowless tubing attractions nearby offer thrills without the cold-weather gear—perfect for visitors traveling with kids.

After a day of exploring, warm up along the Ridgeline Craft Beverage Trail, where local breweries, wineries, and distilleries offer inviting spaces to relax and enjoy seasonal pours. For indoor exploration, the Schiele Museum of Natural History provides hands-on exhibits and planetarium shows that are perfect for winter afternoons.

As evening approaches, head into Downtown Belmont for dinner. Just minutes from Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, Belmont’s charming downtown is filled with locally owned restaurants, cozy spots to gather, and small-town charm that pairs perfectly with a winter night out.

Whether you’re visiting for the ice sculptures or building a full winter itinerary, Ice Sculptures at Stowe is a standout experience that shows why Gaston County is an easy, inspiring winter escape.

Guests are encouraged to dress warmly and plan time to explore the full installation. Photography is welcome, and the contrast of ice, lights, and winter landscapes makes for unforgettable seasonal moments.
