Virginia Ave. This Is a Title This mural welcomes pedestrians and motorists as they make their way into downtown. Commissioned in 2020 by local artist, Allan Potter (Instagram: @ThePaintedWalrus), the Bessemer Bees is located along Virginia Avenue beside of the City Hall Annex (125 E. Virginia Avenue). The mural portrays a gathering of honeybee’s working to collect pollen from sunflowers at the base of Crowders Mountain. The mural depicts a honeybee’s work ethic, dedication, and resiliency. Honeybees work together for the betterment of the colony; the same is true for past, current, and future citizens that call Bessemer City home. Cramerton Khaki 109 Center St. This Is a Title A mural which honors military history uniquely localized to Cramerton and North Carolina. The Cramerton Army Cloth “Khaki” is prominently displayed along with an excerpt from the speech given the day (September 18, 1942) that Cramerton received the Army-Navy “E” Production Award “for high achievement in the production of war materials [Cramerton Army Cloth]” (quotation from Under Secretary of War Robert P. Patterson). Furthermore, the mural features a World War II Era Women Airforce Service Pilot (WASP) member dressed in Cramerton’s own Khaki uniform! The mural is on the wall of the Design Tech business building (the old site of BB&T Bank) located on Center Street. A shout out and thank you to the building owners (the Lawrence family and the McKenney family) for allowing the Town to place this wonderful piece of art on their building!
