Directions: Highway 279 West (Dallas-Cherryville Hwy) Turn left at the Citizens Resource Center into Dallas Park. Follow the signs to the Household Hazardous Waste Center. Household Hazardous Waste collection is provided for Gaston County residents only. These items are examples of household hazardous waste: Oil Based Paint Solvents Bug Sprays Weed Killer Lawn Chemicals Aerosols Fluorescent Bulbs Oil and Oil Filters Cleaners Batteries If these items are not disposed of properly, they may end up contaminating lakes, streams, or soil, which in turn may pose a threat to the environment or public health. Latex paint, water-based paint, can be dried out with kitty litter or sand. Once the paint is totally dry, the can may be disposed of in your household trash. Join us every second and fourth Friday of the month from June through September for a guided Butterfly Walk through The Gardens, led by longtime volunteer and pollinator enthusiast, Keith Camburn. Learn about local butterfly species, explore various host and nectar plants, life cycles of our fluttering friends, and so much more. The Butterfly Walks are free to garden guests and members with their general admission into The Gardens at Stowe. The walk begins at 11 a.m. at our Butterfly Bungalow patio. What to Expect: Guided butterfly walks around different sections of The Gardens at Stowe Learn about local butterfly species, their habitats, behaviors and so much more. Discover hidden gems and scenic spots within the Garden while observing butterflies and other pollinators in their natural environment. Important Information: This event is open to all ages. Pets are not allowed on this walk since it takes place inside The Gardens at Stowe. Please dress appropriately for being outdoors in summer weather. We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Participants are encouraged to respect wildlife and follow Leave No Trace principles during the walk. While registration is not required for this event, you must be either a member to enter the Garden or pay the general admission fee to enter the Gardens to join the walk.
