The trail runs through wetland, part of the athletic fields at the school and forest. The trail helps to connect Belmont and Cramerton. EXPLORE Persimmon Trail at DSBG Natural Surface Easy 3.2 miles Discover 3.2 miles of walking trails around the Garden! Persimmon Trail, located off the parking lot, is a short trail that connects with the Carolina Thread Trail. Maintained by the Carolina Lands Conservancy, the Thread Trail meanders along Lake Wylie and connects with Meadowood Walk. EXPLORE Duke Kimbrell Trail Natural Surface Moderate 2.6 Miles One Way This trail meanders along the shoreline. The trail connects to Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. Visitors can continue along the back side of the parking lot along the Boulevard Trail and can then pick up on the Worrell Trail. The Worrell Trail connects back to the Seven Oaks Preserve Trail and finishes the loop. Visitors do not have to pay the garden to walk on their trails. Bicycles are allowed on the Seven Oaks Preserve Trail BUT NOT ALLOWED on the garden's trails. Please do not ride in wet conditions. EXPLORE Belmont to Cramerton Sidewalk Connector Sidewalk Easy 1.3 Miles Starts at Stowe Park in Belmont and connects almost to Cramerton. Users take Eagle Road and follow the sidewalk until it stops in front of Pinebrook Swim Club. It offers trail users an opportunity to enjoy great views of the South Fork River that can be accessed easily from downtown McAdenville. EXPLORE Pharr Yarns Family Trail Natural Surface Moderate 2 Miles One Way Adjacent to the South Fork River. The trail goes under the I-85 bridge and through woods along the river. The trail is marked at the 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 mile points, ending near the cul-de-sac of a residential neighborhood. While no parking is available at this end of the trail, there is pedestrian access for neighborhood residents. The land surrounding this trail is on the Pharr Yarns Preserve. This is a historic trail twas originally used by the Native Americans and then utilized by settlers for textile mills. There were two mills in the woods along the trail. Website Mountain Island Educational State Forest Located in Lincoln and Gaston Counties this park is a picturesque slice of nature featuring abundant plant and animal life. Not yet open to the public, the forest will feature classes and exhibits designed to educate school children, forestry professionals, and the general public about the important of North Carolina's forest health. Website Crowders Mountain State Park Climb rugged peaks rising 800 feet above the surrounding countryside and watch raptors soar in the wind currents. Rocky ledges and outcrops are perfect seats to which to view the panorama below. The park itself is 5,096 acres. Travel park trails for a closer look at the highland environment. environmental educational experiences are correlatedto the NC standard course of study. Competency goals in science, social studies, math and English/language arts are explored. Website U.S. National Whitewater Center USNSC Field trips offer a variety of experiences in a unique, outdoor learning environment. For groups consisting of students in grades K-12, these programs expose students to outdoor experiences that are active, exciting, and incorporate many of the popular pass activities at the USNSC. All programs are taught by qualified Environmental Educators and provide an enriching out-of-classroom experience. Website Lewis Farm What better way to teach your students about life on a farm than letting them experience it for themselves? A functioning family farm is a great way to educate students. Plan a field trip to Lewis Farm to help them learn about animals, crops and farm chores firsthand. We host our Fall Festival for students Wednesday through Friday, Sept. 28- Oct. 29, at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Fridays are only for groups of more than 100 children. The field trip lasts for two and half hours with rotating stations. The cost is $12. This includes all stations and a field trip pumpkin - the size of a volleyball. All ages are welcome. Website Gaston County Museum of Art & History Located in the historic Hoffman Hotel in Dallas, NC, The Gaston County Museum of Art & History is home to award-winning exhibits and strives to preserve the history and art of the County and the region. Educational programming is available for all ages onsite or we can bring the field trip to you. Website Kings Mountain Historical Museum KMHM preserves and interprets three historic structures including a 1939 Post Office building and two 19th century homes.These buildings provide a backdrop for educational tours that interpret the lifestyle of 19th and 20th century and a variety of other relating to local history. Most exhibits include themes related to history and social studies; some also touch in the fields of science, math, and technology. Programs related to the study of earth sciences and local geology may also be scheduled in advance on an ongoing basis. Website Bit of Hope Ranch The Ranch has more than horses! This 45 acre facility offers, a large barn, 2 covered arenas, a Low Rope Course, a stocked pond, picnicking areas with bonfire pits and a small animal petting area for its many educational programs. The Ranch offers special groups learning programs with themes that focus on horses, horse therapy, animal husbandry, STEM with a farm focus, leadership building, outdoor art and more. Website
