King & Queen of the Catawba: Kayak Sprint Race presented by Human Powered Movement

Details: In supporting more engagement with the Catawba River and Human Powered Movement’s mission of facilitating greater human powered experiences, we are proud to introduce a fun and easy flatwater kayak race at this year’s Riverfest. The King & Queen of the Catawba consists of a roughly .5 mi sprint around an island in the cove of Kevin Loftin Riverfront Park and will be available for walk up registration throughout Riverfest (12p-5p).

Cost: $5 donation to the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation to participate. All paddlers will receive a Human Powered Movement Sticker and a Catawba Riverkeeper Coozie for their donation. Participants can attempt the sprint as many times as they would like to improve their time and chances for prizes ($5 per attempt).

Prizes: Prize packs full of swag from Human Powered Movement, Catawba Riverkeeper and other participating vendors will be given to the top Male and Female. Everyone that participates will also have a chance to win a prize pack that will be selected at random regardless of finishing time or standings.

Rules: Must be 12 or older to participate. Time will start and finish when the bow (front) of the kayak crosses the edge of the kayak launch. Participants can go clockwise or counterclockwise around the island. Participants can attempt the paddle as many times as they would like to improve their time ($5 donation to CRF per attempt).

Gear: Participants must use kayak, paddle and PFD provided by Catawba Riverkeeper.

Winners: Winners will be determined at the end of the event and announced on CRF social (and contacted directly). Winners do not need to be present to collect their prize packs. Winners have until Labor Day weekend to pick up their prize packs from The Boathouse during normal business hours. Prizes will not be mailed.
