Stinger Park in Bessemer City is a Thrilling Addition to Tourism Scene

Stinger Park In Bessemer City

Welcome to the Buzzing Stinger Park in Bessemer City, set for its GRAND OPENING on August 11th, 2023!

This 25-acre recreational wonderland, located behind Bessemer City Primary School on Stinger Park Dr., is not just another park; it's a visionary project with the potential to revolutionize tourism and economic development in the area.

The name "Stinger Park" aptly reflects its close connection to the bee-themed schools in the city - Bessemer City Primary School Honey Bees, Central Elementary Busy Bees, and Bessemer City High School Yellow Jackets. It embodies the essence of community, growth, and sustainability, leaving a lasting impact for generations to come.

So, what can you expect from Stinger Park? Plenty! This park is a comprehensive recreational hub designed to cater to all ages and interests. In its first phase of development, it offers:

  • Tournament-Style Sports Fields: Three lighted diamond championship tournament-style baseball/softball fields, built to high school regulations, with provisions for younger age groups.

  • Multi-Purpose Fields: Two fields for football and soccer, which will host local recreation and youth sports leagues, as well as regional tournaments.

  • Pickleball and Tennis Courts: Enjoy friendly matches with friends and family on these well-maintained courts.

  • Trails and Greenways: To promote connectivity and walkability within the community, the park includes walking paths and trails over the 40 acre site connecting park features.

  • Splash Pad and Playgrounds: Stay cool and let the kids have a blast in the splash pad, and two playgrounds with an ADA accessible area, catering to different age groups, ensuring everyone's enjoyment.

  • Festival Area: The perfect spot for community gatherings and events, fostering a sense of togetherness and celebration.

  • Picnic Area: Embrace the outdoors and indulge in a delightful picnic with friends and family.

  • Field House and Concessions: These facilities will be available during tournaments and events, ensuring visitors are well taken care of.

  • ADA Accessible Restrooms: Ensuring inclusivity and convenience for all park-goers.

  • Ample Parking: With 255 parking spaces, finding a spot won't be a hassle.

This ambitious project, valued at approximately $8.8 million, is being funded through various partnerships, including contributions from Bessemer City itself, the United States Department of Agricultural (USDA) funds, the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) grant, Gaston County Township grant from Caromont Health, and the Gaston County School Board land lease.

The impact of Stinger Park goes beyond its amenities and recreational offerings. It positions Bessemer City as a premier outdoor recreation destination in the Piedmont region. By stimulating business and tax revenue growth through increased tourism spending, it strengthens the community's economic foundation and makes it an even more desirable place to live and visit.

“Though it has yet to be formally dedicated, Stinger Park is already paying dividends for our local tourism industry, having hosted 12 teams for the 2023 North Carolina Dixie Youth Baseball AA D2 State Tournament from June 30th to July 6th.”said Michael Applegate, Director of Gaston County Tourism.“Further, nearly 40% of visitors to Gaston County participate in Outdoor Recreation activities, so we’re thrilled to be adding amenities like the ones we have at Stinger Park to our destination’s offerings.”

We believe that parks are vital for tourism as they provide not only an avenue for recreation and leisure but also enhance the overall experience of a destination. Stinger Park's commitment to education, with the incorporation of bee-themed elements, underscores its dedication to creating a meaningful connection with the local community and visitors alike.

If you want to be a part of this transformative project and contribute to the park's success, consider becoming a sponsor or donor. Get in touch with Bessemer City Parks and Recreation to explore the various opportunities.

As we gear up for the grand opening of Stinger Park on August 11th, 2023, we invite everyone to join in the excitement and envision a future where Bessemer City and all of Gaston County shines as the premier outdoor recreation destination by the year 2030. Together, let's celebrate health, happiness, and prosperity at Stinger Park - the heart of Bessemer City's journey towards a vibrant and thriving community. Let the countdown begin!
