Ice Skating at the Whitewater Center
Updated: Dec 22, 2021
For a third year, US National Whitewater Center, transforms their whitewater rivers into an ice trail for anyone interested in ice skating.

ICE SKATING
The whitewater channels convert every fall into a one-of-a-kind ice skating experience open to all ages and experience levels.

NEW ICE TRAIL
After much interest and success over the past three years, the Whitewater Center has added a brand new trail to the upper pond. The skating area has almost doubled in size to over 24,000 square feet and now includes two ice trails and two free skate zones. The new section of the trail can be found extending toward the pump house.

TAKE A BREAK
In the center of the converted pond is an on-ice Airstream, serving hot and cold beverages.

WINTER ACTIVITIES
Operating as an outdoor center, bring people together, the Whitewater Center offers over 30 unique recreational activities focused on supporting an all-encompassing experience around outdoor lifestyle. In addition to ice skating, here is a list of available winter activities.
Ziplines
If you want the most expansive view of the Whitewater Center, try one of the ziplines.
ROPES
Built into the trees, ropes courses incorporate traversing obstacles of varying difficulty while being harnessed for safety.
JUMPS
Free-fall experiences are created utilizing a belay system. Guests begin on a raised platform then experience a short free fall until a belay system slowly lowers them to the ground.
CLIMBING
One of the largest outdoor climbing facilities in the region including 35-45 top-rope routes, nearly 50 bouldering problems, and a 46-foot tall spire for sport and top rope climbing.
TRAILS
Over 50 miles of trails for mountain bikers, hikers and trail runners. Use of the trail system does not require an activity pass. Please check the current trail status prior to accessing the trail system.
The Whitewater Center is currently comprised of over 1,300 acres of protected land offering 50 miles of trail and access to the Catawba River and Long Creek. The Center’s goal is to continue to increase the size of these protected lands and promote even greater access through land acquisition and natural resource management. Whether you visit to try ice skating this season or simply enjoy eating a meal, we are certain that you will meet new people and connect with old friends in a shared experience outside.
