I - S - C - R - E - A - M for ice cream Tony's Ice Cream in Gastonia

Updated: Jul 12, 2021

Take a drive down East Franklin Blvd. in Gastonia on any old day and you will spy Tony’s Ice Cream, a yellow brick building with its oval sign perched on top of a red pole. Step inside and you will be transported back to 50s. Tony's still has the original booths covered

in red vinyl as well as the original 1960’s two-sided slide top ice cream freezer which is always fully stocked. On the wall hangs an old fashioned pink and green neon clock.

Locals that grew up in the 60’s and 70’s should remember ordering their food from the right side of the long stainless steel counter and their ice cream on the left.

At Tony’s you will get three scoops of ice cream in every milk-shake. Fresh pints and half gallons are also available for purchase and they are made in the factory right next to the shop.

Although the shop was opened in 1947 by the youngest son, Tony, the family started making ice cream in Gastonia in 1915. In the early 1930’s they started distributing by wagons followed by trucks.

Today Tony’s Ice Cream offers signature flavors of ice cream, outrageously good milkshakes, sandwiches and hot dogs that have been voted Best of the Best. They have been serving the local community for over 100 years.
