Imagine standing on a peaceful mountaintop, the Charlotte skyline rising in the distance, the rolling Piedmont stretching as far as the eye can see. Soon, that view will be yours to explore—along a brand-new section of trail connecting Spencer Mountain to George Poston Park in Gaston County.

Set to open in late 2026, this 4-mile stretch will welcome walkers, hikers, and cyclists from near and far. It’s expected to draw nearly one million visitors each year, offering not just breathtaking scenery but also a deeper connection to the area’s rich cultural and natural history.

A Trail with a Story to Tell

Spencer Mountain has stories woven into its hillsides—tales of resilience, creativity, and connection that deserve to be shared. Through a special $30,000 America 250 NC grant, Gaston County and the Carolina Thread Trail will create educational signage along the route so visitors can discover these stories as they explore.

Your Chance to Shape the Experience

Here’s where you come in: before the signs are designed, we want to know which stories should be told.

Whether you’re a history buff, a nature lover, or simply curious about the hidden gems of North Carolina, your voice can help decide how future visitors—local and out-of-state alike—experience Spencer Mountain.

This isn’t just about local pride. It’s about creating a destination that inspires travelers from across the country, right in time for America’s 250th birthday in 2026.
