A new community program called Aventurando en Gaston County

Hi friends! It’s me, Gaston the Eagle — and I’ve got some exciting news for all my fellow adventurers of every age!

This summer, a wave of explorers is soaring into nature through a new community program called Aventurando en Gaston County! This bilingual outdoor adventure series was inspired by our friends at Latinos Aventureros, a group dedicated to making the outdoors welcoming, empowering, and full of discovery for everyone — families, youth, and curious wanderers of all backgrounds.

And guess what? The idea for this series took flight after their Pequeños Aventureros (Little Adventurers) group — a program for kids and families to explore the outdoors together — discovered me, Gaston the Eagle, along with the Discover Gaston map and Conoce a Gastón booklet! Inspired by all the exciting places to explore in Gaston County, they launched a whole new way to help even more people connect with nature — and that’s how Aventurando en Gaston County was born.

Aventurando en Gaston County: Exploring Nature Together

The first stop was the beautiful Daniel Stowe Conservancy, where explorers of all ages wandered garden paths, strolled along wooded trails, and splashed near fountains while learning about plants, bugs, and birds.

Next up is the Schiele Museum, where science meets the great outdoors! You can walk a shaded nature trail, visit the pond (perfect for turtle spotting!), and say hello to goats, pigs, chickens, and more at the farm area. It’s one of the best places to get hands-on with nature while meeting some furry and feathered friends.

After that, the adventure continues at the South Fork Trail, where the sounds of the river and the cool shade of the trees make it the perfect spot to hike, play, and explore at your own pace.

Everyone’s Invited – ¡Todos están invitados!

All Aventurando en Gaston County events are bilingual (English & Spanish) and open to all families and individuals, no matter what language you speak. Whether you’re more comfortable in Spanish, English, or both — you’ll feel right at home on these adventures. Interpreters and bilingual leaders are on hand to make sure everyone feels welcome and included, so kids and grown-ups alike can learn, explore, and have fun together.

One of the first programs to explore these places was Pequeños Aventureros (Little Adventurers) — a group created to help young children and their families experience the joy of nature. Their energy and excitement helped inspire a movement to bring even more people outdoors, in a way that celebrates language, culture, and community.
